Procedure (34-45 minutes)
Look at the G-Slide at the pictures from the reading. Ask Ss: Can you guess what a couch potato and a live wire are? Try to elicit the meaning from Ss. What kind of activities do you think couch potatoes and live wires like? What do they like to do on vacation? (Couch potato: A person who sits or lies on the sofa a lot and watches TV, and does not do much exercise. Live Wire: A very active and energetic person who likes to move, talk, and do many things.) CCQs: Live Wire - do they exercise a lot? (Yes) Do they like to sleep in or get up early? (get up early)
Have Ss read the text in G-Doc quickly for 3 mins and mark which statements are true or false for them. While they are reading decide if they are more of a live wire or couch potato. In OCFB ask Gist Question: Are you more of a couch potato or a live wire? Highlighting: Show Ss they each have their own page of the text in G-Doc. Have Ss read the text again and underline the subject verb structures about the future. Demonstrate the first sentence. CCQs: Are you underlining the whole sentence? (No) Are you underlining the future structures? (Yes) Give Ss 3 mins to read and underline. Check their work in OCFB.
Meaning: Show Ss G-Form. Have Ss match definitions to the sentences. Demonstrate to Ss with an example. Give them 3 mins for the task. Check answers in OCFB. (Yes) Is it something I want to do in the future? (Yes) Is the plan certain 100%? (No, not sure; I will vs. I’m planning to) “Spend (time)”: Am I using time? (Yes) Am I spending money? (no) Will I do one activity for a long time? (Yes) Does “spend” mean we keep time or use it? (Use it) Form: Send link in chat for Figma. Ask Ss to bold the verb right after the target text. (Infinitive Verb: It’s the verb in its most basic form, the way you find it in the dictionary. "Work" not Worked, Working, Works, etc). 1.5 mins to underline infinitive verb individually. Contraction sticky note: What 2 words make up the contraction: I'm? (I + am) What about I'd? (I + would) Show Ss Figma and have them sort sentence structures in table to positive form, negative form, and question form. Give Ss an example of how to sort. In BORs give Ss 3 mins to sort sentence structures. OCFB, demonstrate Part 2, which being verb goes with each subject, use CCQs. Pronunciation: Show Ss G-Slide. Listen to recording of four sentences twice. Have students underline or highlight the stressed syllables. Content words are words important to the meaning and are emphasized. Is "to" a content word? (No) Is it stressed? (No) /tə/ vs. /tuː/. Drill pronunciation individually and chorally. OCFB
Show Ss the G-Doc and have them write sentences based on the words in the given form. Show Ss they each have their own page of the G-Doc. Demonstrate an example. Give Ss 3 mins to work. Answers: 1.
