Procedure (45-55 minutes)
Ask students if they have ever used a brochure? What did they use it for? What type of places do you find brochures? Usually places like hotels, travel agencies, museums.
Show the students a model of a travel brochure about Los Angeles. Have them use a Google form to choose what the brochure is about as a gist task. Then remove the headers for each section on the brochure and have the students write what each section is about on a Google form. Go over together as a class.
Go over useful phrases: 1. It is known for Hollywood. 2. Go to the Griffith Observatory for a breathtaking view. 3. It is a vibrant and eclectic city. 4. Los Angeles is on the Pacific Ocean. 5. Go for a bike ride in the picturesque and historic Venice canals. CCQs: 1. What do you think of what I say LA? 2. Is it a good view? An amazing view? 3. Is the city full of energy? Is there a lot of different areas? Cultures? Food? 4. Is the Pacific Ocean close by? Are there beaches? 5. Are the canals pretty? Are they important? Form: 1. City + known for + Hollywood. 2. Go to + landmark/place for +noun (view/good time). 3. The city is + 2 adjs. 4. City + is on the Pacific Ocean. Prepositional phrase indicating close by. 5. Go for a + walk/jog/bike ride/ stroll + prep (in, on) + adjective + location.
After going over useful phrases, give each student a slide. Have give them 10-12 minutes to write their brochure on a city. Allow them to choose whichever city they want.
After students have completed their brochures break them off into pairs. Tell each pair to make notes on a slide for their partner's brochure. After they have written down their feedback. Put them in breakout rooms to go over together. Leave some time at the end to give any feedback that may benefit everyone to hear.
