Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of how questions in the context of healthy habits

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of how questions in the context of healthy habits

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

teacher asks students to standup if ; 1. you had breakfast today. 2. you slept more than 8 hours. 3. you exercised this week.

pre-teach vocabulary (3-4 minutes) • to clarify the meaning of new lexical items which are needed to understand the conversation

the meaning of "gym, spend and quite a bit" will be clarified by gestures and eliciting from students. teacher asks CCQs like: "if I watch TV for 2 hours, do I spend 2 hours watching TV?" pronunciation will be drilled and the form will be written on board.

Exposure (1-2 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I write this question on the board "what are they talking about?" and ask students to listen to the conversation and answer the question. ICQs like: will you listen to the conversation or read it? (listen)", FB.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I ask students to read the conversation and underline how questions and read them aloud. I ask ICQs like: "do you underline how questions in pairs? (no)"

Clarification (7-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I write how questions on the board, clarify the meaning and elicit the grammar from students and highlight it by using different colors.

Controlled Practice (6-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

before doing the controlled practice, we play a game called "how game" ( for example; I say 2 hours, students will shout how long...?). then I model the first question of controlled practice by eliciting it from students. books are open now. after that, I ask them to do the task alone. ICQs, peer check , and ask them to read their answers aloud.

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I model the first part of practice for students and ask students to do it alone. then I ask ICQs, and after they finish the task, i give them feedback.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I ask them to pick a piece of colored paper and then if they have the same color, sit together. then, I write the needed structure on the board and model the first question with the strongest student. then I ask them to do the rest with their partners. asking ICQs, monitoring and finally giving feedback.

error correction (3-4 minutes) • to correct students mistakes

I write mistakes I've heard during freer practice. and ask students to correct them with their partners. I ask ICQs, and when they finish correcting their mistakes, I ask them to come to the board and correct them.
