Description

In this lesson, students will practice speaking to discuss the topic of "Do you like watching TV shows/movies?"

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of movies and series

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for asking and giving opinions in the context of shows and movies

Procedure

Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

On the whiteboard, write: "Do you like to watch series, movies or YouTube?" "What type/genre do you like?"

Content Preparation (4-5 minutes) • to help learners access the topic content to facilitate and scaffold speaking later

1. On whiteboard: types of shows (comedy, drama, action, documentaries, reality, cartoons). 2. Students match pictures with the type of shows 3. CCQs: "Is Friends a comedy or a drama?" "Is Planet Earth a documentary?"

Language Preparation (8-10 minutes) • Prepare useful phrases for speaking

Marker Sentences: My favourite show is... I don't like... I like... I'm watching...at the moment I never watch... It's really...(funny/scary/interesting/boring) 1. give students a worksheet with above sentence stems 2. students complete the ending individually 3. the compare with a partner to check meaning and accuracy 4. OCFB to correct common issues and model pronunciation CCQs (Meaning) What are you watching now? Is this about now or last year? (Now) What's your favourite show? - Is this the one you like the most? (Yes) I don't like horror films - Do they enjoy them? (No) I never watch.. - Have they watch it before? (No)

Speaking Task (15-17 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice speaking fluency using learned language

Students rotate around the class every 5 minutes (depending on class size), speaking to a new person. Students ask each other: What are you watching now? What's your favourite show/movie Why do you like it? Is it good? What is it about? T monitors discreetly for language and content

Feedback (Content + Language) (8-9 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language and content

Highlight interesting answers from the speaking session. Write 2 wrong sentences and 1 correct sentence, and ask the class to correct the mistakes (Ss work in pairs). T then goes through corrections
