Main Aims

  • To provide students with vocabularies about sports.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide students with some activities to practice the vocabularies.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

start the lesson by greeting the students. then tell them that i have a question in my mind which is "do you like sports". get the answers from some students then ask the other question "what kind of sports do you like or do"? saying first for example "i play basketball and football", then listen to some of their answers. then ask them what do you think our lesson is about today? the answer "sports".

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through showing some pictures and practicing them.

ask the students "other than these sports that you've mentioned what other kind of sports people can do"? listen to some of their answers. then show them the pictures of different types of sports on the board like; tennis, cards, skiing, windsurfing, etc, and elicit from them what is the sport they see on the board, later drill the word and make sure they can pronounce it well specially weak ones.

Useful Language (5-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

when drilling the words I will avoid writing them on the board, so here I will give the students a crossword activity (workbook pg. ex, 11), ask them to work in pairs for some minutes and try to find the correct spelling for the words they heard. show them how the activity works by solving the first one and show them exactly how they should go through it, when the finish ask them to write the words on the board and if there were any mistakes, ask the rest of the class to correct it.

Useful activities (8-12 minutes) • to provide students with some activity to show them how they should use the target language.

ask the students a question "do we play football or go football'? elicit the answer which is play football. then ask another question which is " do we go skiing or play skiing"? elicit the answer which is go skiing. show the students an activity on the board ask them to work alone and put the words in the correct column i.e. words that go with go vs words that go with play. when they finish ask them to check their answers with their partners before showing the answer on the board. drill some of the phrases before moving to the other activity like; i play tennis, i go skiing, i go sailing, etc. set the next activity which is arranging words to make a good sentence, solve one myself to show them what they should do then ask them to work together and answer (workbook pg. ex, 12), when they finish show them the answers on the board.

Productive task (8-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

give the students a sheet of paper with some questions on, tell the students that should go around the class ask and answer the questions to each other, but first i will show them the questions on the board and model some of them with another students to make sure that students understand what they should do, then starting the activity. when they finish ask some students to retell the class about some people they met. if any mistakes happen while the task, write them on the board and ask students to correct them.and end.
