Main Aims

  • To provide scan and gist reading practice using a text about How people are becoming more and more impatience overtime

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice, I want to get the students to leave comments and thoughts about the text

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • Make the context of the text crystal clear for students

I'll go ahead by showing 3 pictures of traffic, slow internet and a long line at a shopping center and ask which one would make you lose your patience first and why? after hearing the answers I'll ask a follow up question saying "do you think we are getting impatient overtime?"

Pre-reading (7-9 minutes) • preparation for the text and make it easier to understand

i pre-teach the words that students are unlikely to know the meaning of in the provided text expect (v) to think that something should happen or be a certain way. patience (n) the ability to stay calm and not get upset especially when there is a delay. replacement (n) something that you get to take the place of something that is lost or broken. broadband (n) a high-speed internet connection. Then students match the words to their definitions they work in pairs to use each word in a sentence related to context of the text

While-reading #1 (8-10 minutes) • To help students get the gist of a text more easily

I'll ask my students to read the title "I WANT IT, AND I WANT IT NOW!" I'll ask them to answer the following gist question 1.what is the main reason life is faster today?

While-reading #2 (8-11 minutes) • To scan the text again for more detailed information

I'll give my students to scan the text again for 2 minutes and then give them 6 minutes to find the answers to question 1-8 from part d and after that we will check the answers together, then students will be asked to underline 5 words about technology in the provided text

Post-reading (8-10 minutes) • To give students a chance to talk about the text and share their own ideas about it

I'll ask the students to discuss about these questions in pairs Do you think the statistics are true in your country? Which time wasting activity annoys you the most? Why? Do you think it's good that life is getting faster? Why/Why not from part F page 38
