Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greeting students online and drawing their attention to the topic of the reading text "Virtual reality (walking in someone else:s shoes)" by showing a 40-second video from VR. Eliciting from them the topic and asking them to share their thoughts or experiences if they have ever worn VR headsets. Rationale: To activate their schemata as well as their prior knowledge so they can re,ate to the text more effectively while focusing on the PTE question type (reorder paragraph).

Pre-Reading (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Pre-teaching three blocking words that might prevent learners fully from comprehending the text and in particular when it comes to addressing a gist question.

While-Reading #1 (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading task

The learners will be give just between 1-2 minutes to read the first and the last paragraph to get the gist of the text by responding a Global Multiple Choice question. Instruction: You have just between 1 or 2 minutes to read the introduction and conclusion, then choose the best option. ICQs: Are you reading the entire text? No. How much time do you have? 2 minutes. Are you doing it alone? Yes. Based on both passages, what is the main limitation of using virtual reality to simulate challenging real-life experiences? A) VR technology is not advanced enough to recreate realistic sensory details like sounds and sights B) Users can voluntarily end the simulation and return to safety, unlike those facing actual hardships C) VR experiences are too short in duration to provide any meaningful understanding D) The simulations focus too much on physical sensations rather than emotional responses

While-Reading #2 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, reading task (PTE test- reorder paragraphs 3 and 4)

Demonstrating a sample approach to the PTE question type with paragraph 4 by walking them through the steps of reordering the paragraph very explicitly. Then providing them with relevant test tips (extracted from the PTE reading booklet (dos and don'ts). Then put students in pairs to complete a genuine paragraph again from the same text (hasten to add that they have NOT seen the entire passage before except the 1st and the last paragraphs). They have to take their time around 3 minutes and reorder the 3rd paragraph by putting 6 sentences in order. Peer check and then providing them with the answer key while reiterating the dos and don'ts as well as test tips dealing with this type of question.
