Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of quantifiers in the context of diet and lifestyle

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of diet

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T starts the lesson by asking SS about their diet habits if they have breakfast or not, or if they drink coffee and how much coffee they drink a day.if they do any sports or not.

Test #1 (5-7 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

-T gives HOs to SS and tells them to ask and answer in pairs. the HOs have questions about diet and lifestyle questionnaire. -T monitors and takes notes to see if the SS can use quantifiers or some of them correctly or not -T takes asks a few SS for FB about what they talked about. -T elicits from SS that the lesson is going to be about quantifiers by telling them to highlight the key words about quantity, then the T writes down the words on WB.

Teach (8-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

-T asks SS questions about quantifiers to know exactly who and what they know about them. for example: which kind of sentences do we use ''a lot of,much,many ....etc'' in? -T finds out which quantifiers the SS are weak at. -T teaches their meaning, use and pronunciation.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

-T puts SS into new pairs. -T gives SS gap-fill HOs. -SS do the exercise and then swap with their partners to correct mistakes. -For FB the T tells SS to write the answers on the board. T check the answers.(alternatively, if there isn't much time, T can give answer key). -T asks some SS why they chose these answers to make sure the understand the meaning and the use of the quantifiers.

Free practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-T puts SS into new pairs. -T gives SS HOs and gives instructions how to do the speaking exercise. -T monitors to take notes and correct mistakes. -For FB the T can do this in open pairs.
