Writing a letter to a celebrity
Age 9-10, Level A1 level

Description

In this lesson the students will learn to write a letter. First, they will be given a picture of a boy who wants to write, and be told that this boy is in need of help to know what to write. They will be given his details (facts about him) and after modeling, they will be asked to produce the rest of the letter.

Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a Letter in the context of describing appearance and family

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of have and has got in the context of family and appearance and enable them to speak about them

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show a picture of a boy who is day dreaming and sad because he cannot think of what to write (letter in an imagination bubble), but he would like to write a letter to his favourite football player, Cristiano Ronaldo. Tell them that as a class, we are going to help him to write a letter.

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide a model of production and providing target and useful language

Doing the example on the board together, eliciting the answers from the students and filling the sentences.

Productive Task(s) (12-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

The students work individually on writing sentences related to their own life based on the board example. Monitoring to help and to provide extra tasks for those who finish early.

Feedback and Error Correction (6-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Students work in pairs and read each other's work, help each other. Student monitoring

Description and family Practice (5-7 minutes) • Practice speaking

The letters are redistributed and the students have to guess who wrote which letter
