Description

In this lesson, students learn about shopping vocabulary through guided discovery based on a situational presentation. The lesson starts with a discussion about shopping. This is followed by a situational presentation by the teacher to teach new vocabulary. Finally, there is some controlled practice through sentence completion by the appropriate vocab and a free practice via a final speaking activity based on the movie students have seen in the class.

Materials

Abc Gap-fill worksheet, movie, board

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of a handful of words about shopping.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide the students with an oral practice of fluency and accuracy while using the new words.

Procedure

engagement (0-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

a short discussion about shopping.

study (2-9 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

a situational presentation about a shopping experience is produced by the teacher, and students will try to guess the new words through the story whenever a word is needed to be taught.

Controlled Practice (9-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

students are provided with a worksheet to fill in the blanks with the new words about shopping individually. Then, students will check their answers with their partner.Finally, the answers will be checked in the class by the teacher.

Free Practice (15-20 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

students will watch a movie about shopping. Then, each student will discuss the movie with her partner using the new words. Finally, all students and the teacher will have a discussion about the movie together.
