WRITING SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS

Description

By the end of the lesson, the learners will be better able to write social media posts about their schools and their environment.

Materials

Abc SHINING LIGHTS LEVEL 1

Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a SOCIAL MEDIA POST in the context of SCHOOL AND ITS ENVIRONMENT

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about SOCIAL MEDIA POST in the context of SCHOOL AND ITS ENVIRONMENT
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a FEEDBACK in the context of SCHOOL AND ITS ENVIRONMENT
  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about SOCIAL MEDIA POST in the context of SCHOOL AND ITS ENVIRONMENT

Procedure

Warmer (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T writes on the board several questions to engage Ss with the context. Ss go into pairs, discuss and answer the questions to have a general understanding. After the warmer they are informed that they will write a social media post.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading

Ss are exposed to the text with the Ex.1 being presented first to encourage reading for gist. After reading the text for 2 minutes (time limit is essential to encourage gist), T asks which school they prefer and Ss raise hands. T nominates a few Ss and ask why. Ss proceed to scan the text for Ex.2. After Ss are done, they change their books to compare their answers with their partners for a minute and answer key is given by T.

Useful Language (5-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ss are separated into pairs and proceed to make notes to answer the questions presented in Ex.1 through Ex.3. These notes are later utilized as an outline for their productive task. T observes and helps each pair when they need and points out what is needed to be answered in their text to be written.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss proceed to write their social media post through Ex.4 and with the help of the outline they have written in Ex.3. T observes walking around the class and make notes of commonly occurring mistakes at this stage.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Through Ex.5 Ss check their work on their own, they they change their work with their partners to give feedback using the same metrics. Ss take notes of their peers' feedback. After this session, T proceeds to delayed correction stage in order to provide insight on commonly occurred mistakes.
