Description

In this lesson students are going develop their reading skill in the context of The Tricks of the Trade. They are going to read for gist first, then they are going to read for details, and the end there will be speaking activity.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T shows a video about some magic tricks. - Whole class discussion about the content of the video.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- T sets prediction task. - T hands SS HO1. - T instructs SS that they are going to work in groups and predict what is the content of the text they are going to read, by answering the questions in HO1 - WCFB - T pre-teachs vocabulary

While-Reading (Scanning) (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- T asks SS to read the text and answer those question - T sets two minutes for this task. - Hands HO2 -T instructs SS to work alone, then compare their answers with their partners. - WCFB -T projects answers.

While-Reading (reading for gist) (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

- T asks SS to read the text and give the best explanation of this statement "the secret is really out of the bag" - Group discussion -WCFB

While-Reading (reading for detail) (8-12 minutes) • To practice reading for detailed comprehension for learners to understand the text in depth.

-T hands SS HO3 that includes true\false statements. -T instructs SS to work individually to answer them. - SS work in pairs to comapre their answers - WCFB -T projects the answers

While-Reading (read for inference) (5-7 minutes) • to practice reading for inferred meaning for learners to understand the text in more depth.

- T hands SS HO 4 . -T instructs SS to work in groups to guess the meaning of those words. - WCFB - T projects answers

Post-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-T projects three questions on board, and instructs SS to work in groups and discuss them.
