Description

In this lesson, Ss are going to learn regular and irregular verbs. Ss are also going to work on question and negative forms. Related listening, and talking practice will be done

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice in positive, negative and question forms of past tense with regular and irregular verbs in the context of daily activities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy in speaking with past tense in the context of daily activities

Procedure

Lead in (5-7 minutes) • To introduce the context and past tense

T: "How was yesterday night?" "What did you do after the class?" -ppp on T: "These are what i did last night" "I bought some chocolate yesterday" Ss talk with their pairs about the pictures on PPP.

Elicit the past tense. (5-9 minutes) • To get the Ss talk about what they already learned.

Sentences are on PPP T asks "How can I say these in present tense?" T gives the first sentence as an example. Ss tell the answers. "Is this past? Is this present?" Draws timelines. Draws attention to "listened-listen", "cleaned-clean" and "bought-buy", "went-go" Elicits irregular verbs.

Structure of past tense (5-5 minutes) • To give the formula for past tense

Marker sentence on PPP. (one with irregular, one with regular verbs) Elicits form. Drills

Listening Practice (10-10 minutes) • To let the Ss hear a record in the context

(if time) Ss take a look at the list. T plays the record. Ss tick the answers. Ss check their answers in pairs. T plays the record again Feedback on WB HO of irregular and regular verbs.

Negative and question forms (5-5 minutes) • To introduce different forms of the target language

PPP on. Elicits answers Drills

Controlled Practice (15-15 minutes) • To give the Ss an opportunity to practice the TL

ppp on HO the questions Ss fill the first column by themselves. ICQ "Alone? or two people?" Pair check Monitors and feedback on WB. T asks for two volunteers Models (Asks the first question to both. If the answer is yes, writes name (+), if no name (-). Ss stand up and ask their peers.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-5 minutes) • To give the Ss an opportunity to practice the TL

Ss work in pairs. Ss say "Name(-) didn't clean...." or "Name (+) cleaned ....." T models if necessary Delayed error correction on WB.
