To provide clarification of difference of simple present and present continuous in communication in the context of on going actions of students and their habits
Procedure (29-39 minutes)
teacher starts the class with talking about what he is doing at the moment and what students are doing and other on going facts like what their fathers are doing at the moment.then with showing some photos or clips engage students to describe what they see.
3 of students sentences will be chosen to write in the correct present continuous form on the board to draw their attention to the verb that I have used differently
with a timeline i draw on the board and using CCQ's i try to clear the correct usages of PC by those 3 sentences: are they finished yet?(no) - are they in past , present, or future?( present)-I will elicit the structure from the students by asking about the role of the words and the way I have changed the verbs. sub + correct form of auxiliary verb ( to be) + base form of the verb + ing. now i explain correct usage of am,is, are comes after subject. now for teaching negative form of the sentences, i will show photos or clips and ask questions irrelevant to the photo or clip to get the answer (no) from students: showing a photo of playing basketball and ask them ' are they playing football?' ( no) then i will elicit the structure from the students by asking about how to use " not" in the sentences: sub+ auxiliary verb + n't+base form of the verb + ing. with a new time line i draw on the board, i write 3 ' already planned ' sentences with focus on future scheduled evens to teach another usage of present continuous: are they showing past,present or future?( future) , are they already planned ? ( yes) . then explain the other usage of present continuous sentences.
Students are going to do practice 25-a on page 130 in the grammar bank in 3 minutes individually. They will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs and then we will check the answers with the whole class. then in the groups, they will do practice 25-b on the same page within 4 minutes. then we will check the answers with the whole class
students will be in groups of 3 or 4. They will have 4 minutes to talk about what their parents are doing now and what they are not doing at the moment.also they have 4 minutes to talk about a scheduled plan for tonight with family or friends ( using present continuous tens) at the end, they will share their conversations with the class .They will be monitored and feedback will be given at the end if needed.
