To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of unreal present
Procedure (40-52 minutes)
- Tell ss that they have worked on young age and now they will talk about adulthood. -Show ss the picture and say she has just graduated from the university, what difficulties she might have, ss discuss in PW, then show the sentences the person in the picture says.
-Give ss the cut-ups on which they will see the second conditional. -Ss match the sentences in pairs
-Give ss the HO. Tell them to focus on the first part of the HO. -Ss look at the model sentences and fill in the part in the HO related to meaning in groups of 3 (minimum) -Tell ss compare their answers with other groups. -Tell ss to look at the next part in the HO. Ss focus on the form, they look at the modal sentences again and find out the form in their groups. -Ss check their answers with other groups. -Finally ss complete the part related to the difference between 1st conditional and 2nd conditional -Give ss the answer key. Tell them to check their answers and if they have any mistakes, discuss in their groups. -Show pronunciation and sentence stress on the board, drill the sentences.
-Give ss the HO of unscrambled sentences. -Put ss into pairs and tell them to work in pairs and order the sentences. -Ss compare their answers with other pairs. -Give ss the answer key to check -Monitor and check if they need re-clarification
-Put ss into pairs. Give them the HO as student A and student B -Ss ask the questions in pairs and answer them. -When they have finished they change questions and ask questions again -Ask 2-3 students their answers to check understanding and give FB
-Put ss into pairs and give them cards on which half sentences are written -Each ss picks a card reads it and completes the sentence with his/her own words. -Monitor the ss take notes of errors and give FB about those errors when the activity is over.
