To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of using present continuous verbs.
Procedure (46-60 minutes)
Show the students a Google slide with the picture of the workplace on pg 34. Ask them to describe the picture. What is the woman behind the computer doing? What do you think she does during the day as part of her job?
Provide the student with a google form via the chat with the text of Imogen's day off of work. Tell students they have 2 mins to read and choose their answers. Go over answers together as a class.
Provide the text on a Google slide to students. Have the highlight all the present continuous verbs. Have a slide for each student then give them two minutes to complete the task. Go over the answers together on a slide with the students.
Meaning: Show google slides with the explanation of present simple and present continuous. Share google form with ways the verb "to be" is used in sentences with the present continuous. Have students fill out the answers, then go over as a class. Form: Show google slide with the different ways of adding "ing" to different types of verbs. Go over negative forms of present continuous and how typically in English contractions are used. Pronunciation: Play controlled practice answers and have students highlight which part of the text is stressed.
Have students fill out a Google form with the correct present or present continuous. Have them go over answers in pairs. Then play the correct answers and have them highlight which part of the sentence is stressed. Go over answers together as a class.
Have students fill out a Google form with sentences that they need to choose the correct form of the verb. Pair off students to go over answers and talk about with their partner what is true for them.
Provide students with questions to conjugate correct verbs in pairs. Ask them to talk about which statements are true for them. Give them 7 mins. Then show the last slide and have students finish the sentence and discus with a partner. Turn my camera off and allow to to talk while I observe. Try to get some DEC in if there is time at the very end.
