Main Aims

  • To teach the regular and irregular verbs in the context of " The News"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide the students with the chance to speak and produce the target languae.

Procedure

Stage 1 • Warmer /Lead -in To set lesson context and engage students.

Teacher writes the question on the board. " What newspapers do you read ? Set Ss in pairs and Remind the previous lesson to the Ss and asks them what they remembered about the newspaper they read.

Stage 2 • Eliciting Grammar Rules To encourage students to build on what they knew

Teacher asks students to think in pairs and find the irregular and regular verbs in the text. Ex. Woodward answered his phone . The men had cameras. . Woodward left his apartment and walked to the office. . Woodward heard some news about the burglary. . Woodward picked up the phone. . Students check their answer together , and then whole class feedback.

Stage 3 • Highlighting To draw students ' attention to the target language.

Set in pairs and ask them to read the text again and to find the regular or irregular verbs in the text. . Woodward looked across the room. ..Woodward picked up the phone and made some calls. Woodward heard some news about the burglary. Woodward left his apartment and walked to the office. T demonstrates & models the first one in the text. Ss check the answers together & then whole class feedback via projecting the text on the board & ask Ss to go to the board to highlight. Teacher points at the regular , irregular verbs to check if students understood the verbs . Teacher plays the recording and Ss listen and repeat the words.

Pass out a gap -fill HO , and ask Ss to work in pairs to complete the missing parts of the sentences using regular and irregular verbs. Peer correction where necessary.

Stage 5 • Freer Practice To provide Ss with free practice of the target language.

Set Ss in pairs and ask them to speak about their news stories to each other. Pass out a HO to help them prepare their news stories. Ss report on each other.
