To use this opportunity to have Ss reflect on different formal and informal language, also to structure the message with persuasive language and other useful language found in the text
Procedure (40-43 minutes)
Lead-in 3=5 Minutes To get Students interested in written communication Slide 1 - 3. T will present using PPT 3 slides of Pictures/examples of tables depicting ancient writing methods along with current foreign culture (Japanese and Arabic). T will ask question about these pictures and solicit from OCF (open Class Feedback) Ss this thought about what they are and how are they used. T will record these answers in a PPT perhaps for later used as DFC T will a 2nd slide to show emojis which also represent a new yet ancient way to represent language and ask Students again in a OCFB if they used these or similar and for what purpose and using what methods. Finally T will present a 3rd slide with Icon representing email applications to show the transition to Email writing.

T will share google form with some questions regarding the text. The form will also ask for some short answers as they read the text. The T to show an example of what makes a formal or informal text.
T to use PPT and show some examples from the text and provide some options for formal and or informal forms. T will provide one example and ask the Ss to write in the chat examples of how these could be transformed to more formal or more informal messages. for examples In the text I hope you are doing well More formal. I trust everything us going well in your end Informal How is it going? T will select 3 other examples and ask S to work in pairs to select additional examples and come up with more formal and informal equivalents. Ss will write in the chat and T will highlight these in the PPT and provide some DEC if necessary
T to ask the students to work individually and draft an email for a friend inviting him or her to visit their country. Instructions will be as follows: The parameters for the email are 40 to 50 words and to include the following Clearly to be an Invitation. Say why they should come and visit. Explain plans. and finally sign off. It should be friendly but not informal, but not too polite. Think of someone that you have known visiting their own country and now you want them to visit yours,
Time 5 minutes T to share with Ss a form to used for evaluating each others writing. This activity will be done in pairs. Each student will have an opportunity to review and comment on the other writing The char to use as a guide will show. Was it Formal, did it include a plan, did it have all requirements is there a clear next step
5 mins T to use the emails that the Ss have created and look for areas of opportunity to not only to correct some possible grammar issues but also to provide alternate ways of expressing similar ideas.
