Description

In this lesson, Ss will learn new vocabulary about cities. Later on, they will match pictures to the paragraphs of a text. After finding the suitable subtitle for each paragraph, ss will answer some questions and later, they will have a speaking practice.

  • To provide gist and detailed reading exercise to the Ss in the context of a city in Canada

  • To provide clarification of some vocabulary related to cities in the context of a city in Canada

Procedure

Lead in (3-3 minutes) • To introduce the context to the Ss.

"which country is this?" "Is Canada above or below the U.S.A?" (gesture) "What language do they speak?" How is the weather in general? Hot? What else do you know about Canada?

Vocabulary (10-10 minutes) • to get students familiar with the vocabulary in the text

-ppp on -point to mountains on ppp. CCQ: Is it big or small? gesture Is it crowded? Is the air clean? Drill and stick the word to WB - point to Sky Train CCQ: Is it on the ground level? Is it on a overpass? Does it carry people? Drill and stick the word to WB - Point to ferry CCQ: Does it swim on the sea? Does it carry people? Yes Drill and stick the word to WB - point to trolley bus CCQ: Does it carry people? Long distance or short distance? - gesture Small or big? gesture Is it old or modern? Drill and stick the word to WB -point to sailing CCQ: Is it common? Can you do it on ground? -fishing: CCQ; Do you fish on the beach? Can you fish in mountains? point to the first picture Do you need luck? gestures Drill and stick the word to WB Point to one of the pictures. ss say the word. continue. take off words from the WB one by one and keep asking the word.

Pre-reading (10-10 minutes) • To let the students have a skimming activity

T hold the text in hand. instructions. : read quickly. dont try to understand details. Just say "this paragraph talks about ....." ICQ : gesture detailed reading and skimming. Which one are you doing? Do you have a lot of time? work alone. 3 minutes. ICQ; Are you working together or alone? 4 minutes? -t gives pictures related to paragraphs. match by yourself ICQ; Yourself? with someone? -Compare your answers with the one sitting next to you. gesture Monitor the whole time feedback on ppp

While Reading (10-10 minutes) • To give the Ss an opportunity to skim.
