Procedure (39-46 minutes)
• T share screen with 2-3 images (crowded beach, peaceful beach, airport delay) • T asks: "What do you see in the photos?" • Elicit descriptions from 2-3 students • T asks: "Do the photos show positive or negative things about holidays?" • T asks (personalize): "[Name] Where do you usually go for holidays?" (1-2 students respond) • T says (link to topic): "Today we're going to talk about good and bad holiday experiences."
• T share discussion question on screen: "What is most important to you on holiday?" (weather, food, people, hotel, activities, etc.) • T instructs: "I will give you 3 mins" "Talk about this question with your partner. Ask them why." • ICQ: "How much time?" "3 minutes" • T sets up breakout rooms (pairs) Reminder: "Please accept the invitation" • Students discuss in breakout rooms (3 min) • T monitors conversations, join rooms briefly • T bring students back to main room • OCFB: Ask 2-3 students: "[Name] What's important to you on holiday?" • Acknowledge responses: "That's interesting..." / "Me too!"

(No) • Did I like this? (No) • Is this positive or negative? (Negative) Peaceful and relaxing • Was it noisy? (No) - checks opposite concept • Did you feel stressed? (No) - checks "relaxing" meaning • Was it a good or bad experience? (Good) Luxurious • Did I enjoy staying at this hotel? (Yes) • Was this hotel better than the cheap hotel? (Yes) • Was it more expensive? (Yes, probably) • Is this positive or negative? (Positive) Delayed • Did I have to wait longer for the plane? (Yes) • Is this a good thing or a bad thing? (Bad) FORM Confirm prepositions: [on] holiday, [to] the beach, [at] the hotel • These are fixed expressions: We always say 'on holiday', not 'to holiday' or 'at holiday. English uses 'on' with holiday. You need to memorize this. • Drill the full phrases immediately: Let's practice: 'I went on holiday.' Everyone… I went to the beach. Everyone… I stayed at a hotel. Everyone… • Then nominate 1-2 individuals PRONUNCIATION - Drill phrases with word stress: - "It was PEACEful and reLAXing" - "The BEACH was SO CROWDed" - "UnFORtunately, my flight was deLAYED" - "The hotel was luxUrious" • Choral drilling, then individual (1-2 students each) APPROPRIACY • Unfortunately Is this something good or bad? (negative / bad news) What other things can be bad or negative? (elicit responses, may be bad food) Can I say “Unfortunately, the food was bad”? (yes) • "so" = strong feeling / for emphasis Could I also say “the beach was crowded”? (yes) Is it still negative? (yes) If I add “so” does it make it stronger or not as strong? (stronger) Could I say “the hotel was so luxurious”? (yes)
SPEAKING TASK 1 (Bad holidays) T shows slide of question: Have you ever had a bad holiday? Why was it bad? (on / at / to, crowded, delayed, unfortunately, so…) T invites S to ask the question. DEC (4 mins) T shows slide of 1-2 correct and 2-3 incorrect sentences. (focusing on prepositions, past tense. Or if pronunciation is very problematic) • Elicit correction from students • Drill correct version • Closing: "Great work today!"
