Main Aims

  • To provide oral accuracy and fluency practice using prepositions of place in the context of objects in the bedroom

Procedure

Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To review the items studied in the previous lesson and to set the theme of the lesson

- Show sts the first slide that has a picture of a bedroom. Ask: What is this? (It's a bedroom.) Tell them that the boy is called Robert and this is Robert's bedroom. - Ask them some questions like: 1. Is there a laptop in the bedroom? (Yes, there is.) 2. Is there a football in the room? (Yes, there is.) 3. Are there books in the room? (Yes, there are.) - Introduce the cat in slide 2 then go through the slides eliciting the prepositions from sts.

Presentation (5-5 minutes) • To clarify meaning, pronunciation, and form of the target language

- Do some choral and individual with the students 1. The cat is in the bin. 2. The cat is on the book. 3. The cat is under the desk. 4. The cat is next to the bag. - Remind sts of the word 'to' in 'next to'. Circle it on the board.

Controlled practice (5-5 minutes) • To provide learners with controlled written practice focused on using the prepositions accurately

- Tell sts that they will work in pairs, look at the picture and write the missing prepositions in exercise 2. time limit: 2 mts - Provide sts with the answer key on the board.

Controlled practice (6-7 minutes) • To provide learners with controlled oral practice focused on using the prepositions accurately

- Have sts work in pairs to answer exercise 3. - Go through the vocabulary in exercise 3 and make sure they know the word 'trainers'. - Give sts a model. Ask one student or two these two questions: Where is Robert's CD player? (It's on the desk next to the laptop.) Where are his car keys? (They're in the drawer.) time limit: 5 mts - Get some fb from sts.

Semi-controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide controlled written and oral practice focused on the TL

- Have sts work in pairs to do exercise 3. Model a sentence on the board. time limit: 4 mts - Give sts the answer key then get them to ask and answer in pairs. time limit: 3 mts

Semi controlled practice (7-8 minutes) • To provide oral fluency practice focused on TL

- Have sts work in pairs to ask and answer about the pictures. - Students A have the picture on pg. 59. Give students B copies of pg. 141. Tell students A and B to hide their pictures. - Model one or two questions then give sts 4 mts to do the activity time limit:4 - DEC on the board

Listening activity (3-3 minutes) • To check sts' understanding of the meaning of TL

- Tell sts to put the two pictures in front of them. - Tell sts they are going to listen to a description of a room and they should choose which one it it. - Play audio file 8.8 - Get some fb form sts then give them the answer (picture B)
