Main Aims

  • Students will practice ad understand the MFP of Present Simple (I, you, we, they): yes/no questions and short answers.

Subsidiary Aims

  • SS will do some speaking/writing activities to practice asking questions and answers in the present simple tense.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Split the board into two columns. - Split students into a corresponding number of teams. - Each team lines up in front of their column, a few meters back. - Each team has a board marker. - T calls out a category that she wants the SS to brainstorm. - SS have to write sentences using given pronouns (I, you, they, we) in present simple. - S who is first in line runs to board, writes the sentence, runs back to line, gives pen to next S in line and then goes to back of line (i.e. relay). - The teams are playing against each other (i.e. race). Until all SS are done. - T reviews sentences (important) with SS, totals points to declare the winners.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Gap filler and matching activity - T gives instruction about the HO and ask SS to work individually and complete it. - SS will complete the given HO in which they write the words from the box in empty space to complete the phrases. - SS will then match the complete phrases with the picture below by writing the correct letter next to each picture. - SS check their answers with their partner. - T does the correct the answer with WC.

Teach (3-5 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

T will clarify or demonstrate the TL i.e, present simple (I, you, we, they): yes/no question and short answers. For example: - T will ask SS about their hobbies they have and write few of them on board. - Elicit question with "Do you........?". Drill these kind of questions if necessary. - SS will then make those sentence in to negative form. eg: I like to play tennis. (positive) I don't like to play tennis. (negative)

Test #2 (5-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

- T will give instruction for the HO. - SS will work individually and complete the HO by using TL. - later, SS will work in pair and check their answers. - T gives feedback and correct answers with WC

Free practice - Find two People (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- T gives instructions for the HO and ask students to work on their own 1st and choose the correct verb form for each phrase in the first column. - SS can compare their answers in pairs before checking the answers with the WC. - Tell SS that they much friends two people in the class who answer YES to each question and write their names in the 2nd column. - Finally, ask students to tell the class two things they have found out about their class.

Time Filler (4-8 minutes) • To engage SS to achieve TL
