Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Share Google slides on pictures of leisure activities. Then break out students to talk about which activities they like and do not like and why.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Meaning: Show Google slide, ask a student to match meanings to definitions. Ask questions to make sure all students understand the meaning. Form: Ask a student what form "going" is. Is it a noun, verb, etc. What is restaurant? Ask a different student what form percent is? Here it is used as a an adverb to describe a verb. Next ask another student what form "go" is. What form is walk? Pronunciation: Tell the students they will listen to the four expressions. While they listen they will put the phrases in the columns according to the stress patterns. Show students they have a slide. Get them to signal with a thumbs up when they find the slide with their name on it. Say each phrase twice. Check answers. 1. oooooOo - Going to a restaurant 2. 2. oooo - Go for a walk 3. oO - percent

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ask students to listen to the audio and choose which statement on the slide best describes what they are talking about in the audio file.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Show students the survey slide Tell them they will listen to the audio again and fill in the missing percentages. Ask them to find the slide with their name on it and give me the thumbs up once they have found it. Play audio again and let them complete their slides. Put students in break out rooms to compare answers. Show answers on an extra slide. Answers: Playing video games: 11% Going to the cinema: 46% Rent video/DVD: 40% Going to a restaurant: 64% Play a musical instrument: 8% Have students read the audio script and then we will go over answers as a class.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Show students the last slide. Break them into group to discuss the results of the survey.
