Description

This is a guided discovery grammar lesson, using a reading text, the idea that learners notice the target structure in context first, then figure out the rules with my guidance, instead of just explaining everything up front.

Materials

Abc power-point and board
Abc power-point with projector
Abc Their own phones with pictures i sent before.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan, detailed, deduction and inference

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice and clarification

Procedure

Lead in • Get learners interested and activate background knowledge before reading

Ask them to read the questions and answer in pairs.

Gist reading • Understand the main idea

Ask them to read the text quickly and say what is the main idea

Detailed reading for context • Understand key points and prepare for grammar noticing

Ask them to answer the t/f and other questions and search for details.

Noticing stage • Draw attention to the grammar

Ask them to come back to the text and write about tenses

Concept checking & rule building • Teaching the grammar

Ask them to tell you what is the difference between 2 tenses they learned

Clarification • Confrim correct use, form and pronunciation

Ask them to notice about the form and structure

Controlled practice • Accurate use of the form in q safe activity

Ask them to do the fill in the blanks practice

Frrer practice • Move towards meaningful use in content

Ask them to talk about their parteners and ask the questions of each other

Feedback & error correction • Consolidate learning and fix key issues

Ask them to share their idead with clasd and give them feedback about their opinions and error corrections.
