Procedure

Exposure (20-25 minutes) • To provide the TL

T writes on board: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, and tells Ss to write them down. T says each number and has Ss repeat them. T then has Ss recite the numbers, providing support when needed. If Ss pick up 1-20 quickly, T continues with 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100, and goes through the same process of repeating and having Ss recite.

Activity (20-25 minutes) • For Ss to use TL accurately

T demos activity by holding up index cards with numbers in a random order. T explains that he/she will ask Ss to identify the number on the card. When Ss demonstrate that they can complete the task, T tells them that they will do the same thing in partners. T hands out index cards to Ss, assigns partners, and has them take turns identifying the numbers. T monitors activity. If time allows, T writes 21 on the board and asks Ss the guess how to say it, using what they've learned. T then explains that everything from 20-100 is simply adding the first number to the second, when pronouncing the name.
