Next, students will be presented with a definition of therapy on the screen orthographically and will be asked to verbally provide different types of therapy they heard of. Each student will get a chance to speak. Instructor will write students' answers on the screen.
Students will listen to a recording about therapy and will be asked to think about the question "What are the two types of therapies discussed in the recording?" (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1pZZMmAfOH_CE_6gRKyBXhjlITulo0EgFmbvX5fAtd-M/edit) After listening to the recording, students will share their answers in class. Answers will be shown on Google Form.
Next, students will get a chance to listen to four sentences that use the zero and first conditional and choose the correct form of the verb that was used in the recording. The instructor will provide the correct answers. The instructor will share the Google Form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1010DpI5X9g40nOHX_JUR1rDWR8u1kZ9usBBM5T_9vYw/edit) and will ask students to provide the answers individually in a minute. Questions will target exploring the form and meaning associated with the sentences mentioned in the recording. Answers: 1. If he shouts, I get angry --> Sentence is about a habit/truth 2.If I see him, I'll tell him --> Sentence is about a possible future event 3. In the sentence "If he shouts, I get angry," we use what tense in the first clause --> present simple 4. In the sentence "If he shouts, I get angry," we use what tense in the second/main clause --> present simple 5. In the sentence "If I see him, I'll tell him" we use what tense in the if/conditional clause --> In the sentence "If I see him, I'll tell him" we use what tense in the if/conditional clause 6. If I see him, I will tell him Answer (sentence 2) Instructor will ask students which sentence they think discusses habits/truths and which discusses possible future events. Answer: sentence 1 discusses habits/truths. Sentence 2 discusses possible future events. On the next two slides, students will provide their educated guess on what the form for each the zero conditional and first conditional forms are. Instructor will ask about the tense of each of the sentences' first and second clause is and which clauses are in the conditional and which are not. Answers: Zero conditional form: If + present simple, present simple First conditional form: If + present simple, will + base verb To check understanding, students will be aske which one (the zero or first conditional that discusses habits/truths and which discusses possible future events). Answer: Zero conditional form discusses habits/truths. First conditional discusses possible future events. The instructor will then pronounce the contracted form of "will" with a pronoun (e.g., he'll) . Instructor will provide the correct pronunciation thereafter (i.e., /əl/ or /ɪl/). Next, the same phrases that were in the second recording will be shown on the screen and students will be asked to discuss which words are stressed in each clause. Answers: 1.If he shouts, I get angry --> shouts and angry are stressed 2.If I see him, I’ll tell him --> see and tell are stressed 3. When we arrive, we’ll eat --> arrive and eat are stressed 4.When we get there, we’ll phone you --> get and phone are stressed 5. If I finish early, I go home --> "finish and go are stressed Instructor will ask "what part of speech are the stressed words?" (answer: usually the verb)
Students will listen to the recording again and will be asked to listen for details before starting the recording. Google form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/14uqIbQk9MGGaUWzklSJigelU5tnpftMeeAIgvLB37Ok/edit) with questions will be shared before starting the recording.
Students will be provided a link to online post-it notes (https://padlet.com/marwaelraey11/my-radiant-sandbox-ny2urcomazdvsgp2?frame_id=page%3ALijxFqSfG11zFRynq9sXW) and will be asked to take 6 minutes to complete the following sentences verbally with their partner and ask follow-up questions in a conversation: -When I get older,______ -When my English gets better,__________ -If I am happy, I usually______________ -If I am stressed, I usually______________ Students will be reminded to use the correct form of the zero and first conditional
