Description

Students will read and discuss an interview with actor Ewan McGregor. Before they read, they will review some vocabulary words to support comprehension and pronunciation. They will practice reading for gist and detail by matching questions with the answers, identyfing true or false statements, and talking about their own opinions on films an actors.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about an interview with an actor Ewan McGregor about his career and familiy life. in the context of Ambitions,career and personal life balance.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice in the context of an interview with an actor about his career and family life.
  • To provide practice in understanding and pronouncing key vocabulary to support comprehension of the interview.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Show students pictures of Ewan McGreogor and ask if they know who he is. -Ask a few quick questions to activate interest, such as: Do you like watching films? Have you seen any films with this actor? What kind of films do you enjoy? - Elicit a few answers and introduce the topic: An interview with Ewan McGregor about his career and family life. -Have students discuss in pairs what they would ask their favorite celebrity.

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-I will ask students to read the words introduced in the Quizlet. (theater,film,script,supportive,character) -Practice pronunciation,identify the number of syllables word stress chorally or individually. -Clarify meaning using exercise (matching) and CCQs. Where do actors work? In a theater, Is a script something actors read or write? Read, Is a character a real person or someone in a story or film? Someone in a story or film, If your family is supportive, do they help you or ignore you? help you, Do you watch a film or read it? watch it.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1. Ask students to read the interview quickly (skimming to get a general idea) 2 -3 minutes 2. Ss answer google forms individually,give students a few minutes to match the answers to the questions. 3. When time is up have students compare answers in pairs.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

1.Tell Ss they are going to read the text again and decide whether the sentences in google forms are true or false. 2.I will ask Ss to justify the answers. Why? 3. Put Ss in pairs to discuss their answers. 4. Conduct feedback on the task. Answers: 1. False, I love The theater 2. True, I've really enjoy them all . 3. False, Imagine that... It's unbelievable 4. False, They all do.. 5. True, We took her out of school.. It's important to be together. 6. False, It was difficult because she missed her friends. 7. False, I hated mime clases.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1.Tell students to imagine they are interviewing a famous film star. 2. In pairs, they make a short list of questions(3-4) they would like to ask. Example:What was your favorite film? What do you like most about acting? 3. Ss think about what answers the actors might give. 4. Conduct brief class feedback and invite some pairs to share one question and possible answer. Wrap up the final activity: After pairs share their interview questions, thank students for their ideas. Briefly remind them of the lesson's main focus. " Today we learned some new words, practiced pronunciation, and read about Ewan McGregor to practice reading for gist and detail."
