Main Aims

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of daily activities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The class will be started by a talk about the activities I have done during the day. It will be followed by students sharing what they have done today with the class.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will choose some of my students sentences or mine to write in the correct present perfect on the board to show how the Present Perfect is used with yet and already.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will review present perfect by asking CCQs(meaning):Do we know exactly when action happened? (No).Is it connected to present?(Yes) Does the action happened recently in the past or long time ago?(Recently) so here I covered the usage of present perfect in recent past and its relationship with the present. I will draw a timeline to show present perfect and its difference with simple past for a short review, then I will ask some CCQs about form of present perfect .Do we change “have” for he/she/it?(Yes, it becomes has ).Is it have + past participle or just the past tense? (Have + past participle).I will let them know about regular verbs that receive an ed at the end and about the irregular verbs that change completely .They will be given the list of irregular verbs to read and memorize. They will be informed about contraction of have and has in present perfect and negative and Q form of present perfect with yes and no answer. Finally, already and yet will be taught to students by using CCQs and examples .Forexample, I have already had 3 coffees. Have I finished drinking them or not? (Finished). Is “already” used for something completed or not completed?( Completed) Is this action surprising, expected, or early? ( Early / done sooner than expected ) Do we use already in negative sentences or positive sentences?(+) Does already come before the main verb or after it?(Before) And CCQs for teaching yet: Is the action finished or not finished? (Not finished) Does “yet” usually appear in positive or negative sentences? (Negative) Can we use “yet” in questions? (Yes ) Where do we put “yet” in a sentence? (At the end of the sentence) Does “yet” show that the action might happen in the future?( Yes)

Students are going to complete 5 exercises on page 133 in the grammar bank in 5 minutes individually. They will have 3 minutes to check their answers in pairs and then we will check the answers with the whole class.

Free Practice (10-14 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The students are going to be divided into group of 3 or 4 .They will have 8 minutes to talk about funny, surprising, or interesting things that have happened to them today .at the end , they are going to tell the class who in the group they think have had the funniest and more interesting story . They will be monitored and feedback will be given at the end if needed.
