Description

In this L, Ss learn how to check in a hotel and how to contact reception if they have any problems. They do in the context of a story about Rob and Jenny, Rob visits Jenny in New York.

Main Aims

  • To enable Ss tell about their problems and ask for help in a hotel in the context of a man travelling to New York for business.

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about personal presentation in the context of travelling for work

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Introduce Jenny and Rob. Ask S to describe Jenny and Rob, and predict what they're like. Ask to predict the story looking at the pictures

Initial Listening Task (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ask S to number the pictures in the correct order. Feedback

While-Reading/Listening #2 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening task.

Look at the comprehension Qs. Check if S remembers anything. Listen again. Provide feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Predict about Jenny and Rob's relationship. 'What do you think will happen next in their story?'
