Procedure (33-42 minutes)
Tell Ss they are going to answer a question. Give Ss one minute to think about their answer. Ask Ss to share their answer in OC or in pairs through chat. Elicit job. Model pronunciation (showing open mouth and bottom lip touching top teeth). Ask CCQs: Do people with jobs get paid? (Yes). Does a dentist have a job? (Yes). Do jobs always pay well? (No). Can a person have two jobs? (Yes).
Meaning Show the G-Slide. Explain to Ss that they should match the words highlighted in yellow (1-4) with the meanings (A-D). Share the link in the chat and confirm that Ss can access it. Check answers: 1 C, 2 D, 3 A, 4 B. Ask CCQs: Do we know who wants to be a millionaire? (No). What continent is Mexico on? (North America). Form #2 Study - Is it a verb or noun? (Verb, even though it can also be a noun) How do we know? (It refers not to a study, but to studying). #4 Ask: What is the form? (Noun: (million) noun + (-aire) suffix). Pronunciation Show Slide 2. Tell Ss they will hear four sentences. They should move the sentences into the columns according to the stress pattern of the words highlighted in yellow. Play twice. Check answers: 3 syllables Ooo: 3 continent 3 syllables ooO: 4 millionaire 2 syllables Oo: 2 study 3 syllables oOo: 1 ambition Drill chorally and individually.
Show the G-Form. Tell Ss they should identify each person's interests according to the listening. Instruction: listen to the four people talking about themselves and complete the task in two minutes. Share the link in the chat and confirm that Ss can access it. Set the timer. When time is up, confirm answers: Morgan: music, going to the movies, people, and making friends. Luke: money, working for himself, and being independent. Carmen: languages, reading, and meeting people. Jong: studying hard, improving his English, and working hard.
Tell Ss they are going to listen to the four people talk about themselves again and choose whether the six sentences in the G-Form are true, false, or not given. Show the G-Form and do an example before sharing the link in the chat. Play the audio again and give Ss four minutes to complete the task. Put Ss in pairs in BORs to compare their answers. Prompt them to justify the answers they marked as false or not given. Have audio script ready to clear up questions. OC: Show Ss the answers on the G-Form responses. Answers: 1 T, 2 F, 3 F, 4 T, 5 F, 6 NG.
Ask Ss to answer the questions. Give Ss three minutes to complete the columns about possible jobs and reasons using the image of jobs from the PPT: 1. What two jobs do you recommend for each person? 2. Why? Put Ss in pairs in BORs to share their ideas for five minutes. Provide vocabulary if needed. OCFB on a few of the best ideas and give delayed error correction (DEC).
