Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of conversation in the context of daily life

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of daily life

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I talked about the things that I did yesterday. For example, yesterday morning I was eating breakfast. In the afternoon, I was working

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I asked them what they were doing yesterday morning. Afternoon and night.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will write the correct form of the sentences on the board.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I was walking in the park yesterday morning. CCQS: What is the role of the first word? Subject. What about the second word? To be a verb. Why did we use (was) instead of (are) or (were)? What comes after to be verb? Verb. base form + ing. I will draw a timeline and ask: Does it happen in the past, present, or future? Past. Did the action happen in a progress or did it stop? Progress. Why don't I say I walked yesterday morning? Because the action is long.. When we want to say that an action that happened in the past was in progress, we use past continuous. We could use past simple and past continuous together in a sentence when we use past continuous for longer actions and past simple for shorter actions.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

exercises in the book.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask them to tell me about something that they practiced in the past, and they saw results. How were they practicing?
