Main Aims

  • To provide practice of Appearances in the context of Movie stars

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students will be able to talk about daily routines and current actions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the topic

Show pictures/names of movie stars. Ask students to say one Present Simple fact (e.g. He acts in action movies) and one Present Continuous fact (e.g. He is smiling). Then, in pairs, students create one sentence in each tense about another star and share with the class.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Students work in pairs to read 8–10 sentences about movie stars. They decide if each sentence is a fact (Present Simple) or happening now (Present Continuous). Then, the teacher checks answers with the whole class and notes common errors for the Teach stage.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Board mistakes from Test stage → use CCQs & timelines to highlight meaning. Clarify forms of Present Simple vs Present Continuous (+ highlight common errors). Guided practice: students correct 6 mixed sentences in pairs, then create 1 of each about their favorite movie star. Feedback: share answers & correct together.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Procedure Summary: Give students gap-fill/error-correction sentences about movie stars. Students complete individually, then compare in pairs. Check answers as a class and highlight improvement from the first test.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students work in pairs as interviewer and movie star. They role-play interviews using Present Simple for routines and Present Continuous for current actions. Roles are swapped, and some pairs present to the class. Teacher monitors and gives feedback.
