Main Aims

To provide skimming and detailed reading practice using a text about why aren't women's sports as popular as men's.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of sports. Commenting what they think about the topic.
Procedure (28-40 minutes)
In this stage, the students are asked: Do you like sports? Which sports do you like? Do you watch women's sports?
The students are going to be taught the meaning of the following vocabulary: Serve - Opponent - Return - Identical - Popular - Strength - Individual - Inferior with the definitions and then they will be asked to use them in examples.
In this stage, students will read some comments people posted on a forum. They are asked to answer the following questions: Find one person who obviously prefers women's sports and one who obviously prefers men's sports. (page 79 part B)
In this stage, the students are asked to read the text A-F again and match them to the main point that each person is making. (page 79 part C) They will be asked to discuss their answers.
The students will be asked to discuss the following question in pairs: Why aren't women's sports as popular as men's?
