Lexics: I like/I don't like/I hate/Iove...
Elementary level


This session's aim is to teach students lexis"like,hate,don't like,love" and to encourage them to pratice and use the targeted langage through the different activities related to the theme of free- time activities.

Main Aims

  • -Teaching lexis and practice them throughout the lesson's skills using the free-task context

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide calrificaton about the use, meaning and the form of the lexis( love,hate,like) .To encourage the students to use the mentionned expressions in the different skills


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T draws three columns on the board :in every column he will draw an emoticon( one for love/one for the like and the other hate) Ss try to guess what the teacher is doing. T sticks some pictures on every column ( a book, TV,skiing,football).T asks the students :Do I like football?.Ss will look at the board and say :T doesn't like football .T goes on asking the students about the things he likes and dislikes.

Highlighting/ Clarification of the language (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T writes two sentences on the board then analyse the meaning,form and pronounciation of the sentences. T drills the sentences with the students. Ss repeat the sentences aloud T corrects the students pronunouciation mistakes.

Controlled activity/ reading skill (3-5 minutes) • To focus on the targted language through lreading

T instructs the Ss about the next activity reading Ss read the text then find out the right anserws Ss will discuss their answers in pairs then T design some students to come and write their answers on the board. T gives the answer key to the students

guided activity:game (3-6 minutes) • Students practice the taragted language

T intsructs the Ss about how to play the game "guess who" The student finds a partner and asks him about likes and dislikes( free-time activites context) Ss swap their partners draws a blank cline on the board and gets students to draw and write the things they found out about thier partners .Students will order the lexis wodsaccordngto the degree of intensity.exp( hate:1st/2nd rellay like....)

Controlled Practice (4-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T hands the Ss with a fill-gap task. Ss work individullay . T monitors the students T tells the students to discuss thier answers with thier partners. T discuss the answsrs with the whole class T provides the Ss with the answer key.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T gives the Ss a blank paper and ask the students to writes a paragraph about the activities they like to do in thier free-time
