Subsidiary Aims
-
by the end of the 45-minute lesson, students will be able to describe the life in an island by comparaing between the island and their own country
Procedure (35-45 minutes)
-T will start the lesson with asking the SS if they know what is the place that is in the screen or not, then will ask to the SS discuss some questions with each other: 1-What is the most beautiful place you have visited? What did you like about it? 2-Do you like islands? Why? Do you want to go to an island in the future? 3-Do you think that there is a differencebetween islands and normal cities? What is the difference?
-T will preteach some vocabulary words to the SS so that they can comprehend the text. Ferry: T will clarify it using pictures Dark and light: T will use situations to clarify them. -T will tell the SS that they are going to listen to an audio about a island called Stronoway in scottland. then will ask if anyone know it. then will tell the SS that Scottland is in europe and it has alot of beautiful places and one of them is this island that is called the isle of lewis that has the town Stronoway. -After clarifying this to the SS, T will Show them some pictures to Stronoway to increase their interest in the topic.
-After preparing the SS for the Text, T will tell them that it's time for listening and will provide them with the instructions for the gist. "So guys, since we knew some information about Stronoway, lets listen to the text that is about it. Sheena lives in Stronoway and she is going to talk about it and i want you guys to listen to her and tick on the sentence that she will say in the audio. you can read them you have 30 seconds them we will start." ICQ(s): 1-Are you going to listen only or listen and tick on what she said? listen and tick. -After listening, T will ask the SS to work in pairs to check their answers together. -FB: T will check with the SS their answers and will check if they all agree on them. then will show them the answer key.
T will guide the SS smoothly to the Second task which is the detailed one by saying "So guys, since we know listened to the audio one time, it's time to listen again and answer some questions that are specific about Stornoway," Instructions: 1-read the questions 2-listen again 3-choose the correct answer. -These are 5 questions, so SS will need to listen again to get all of them. -After answering the questions, SS will check their answers in pairs. -FB: T will check with the SS their answers and will check if they all agree on them. then will show them the answer key.
-T will guide the SS to the this stage by saying that since we knew lots of information about Stronoway, it's time to speak and talk about it in different ways. -T will Show the SS some questions and will ask them to prepare there answers in 3 mins. after they prepare,T will tell the SS to discuss these questions with each other and will ask the SS to say if they agreed on something or not. -T will be monitoring to get the language FB for the SS. FB: 1-Content FB: T will ask the SS what they agreed on. 2-language FB: T will write on the board the positve and the negative FB and give the SS an opportunity to correct them. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Extension task: -T will tell the SS to think in 2 mins about a title for the town and why they used this title. -T will ask the SS to share their opinions together and to check which title is the best and why. FB: 1-Content FB: T will ask the SS what they agreed on. 2-language FB: T will write on the board the positve and the negative FB and give the SS an opportunity to correct them.
