Description

In this lesson, students will learn how to answer different questions.

Materials

Abc Laptop, board, various listening questions

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, detailed and specific information listening practice using a text about New Year*s EVE.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about New Year*s EVE in the context of for learning related vocabularies and using them in another context.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

First of all, students close their books, then the teacher asks them one or two general questions about the title of listening so that students answer them, the teacher gives feedback.

Pre-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In this part, the teacher tries to do some activities that students guess about the topic of listening, for example, using the picture of that lesson.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

In this part, there is one question about general idea, so firstly,students read the question, then listen to audio for answering that question. Sometimes the teacher design the question for gist.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students read the questions for finding the answers quickly when they are listening, as well as, the teacher solves one question as a sample, then students listen to that audio, so check with their partners and the teacher gives them feedback. It is an important point that for comprehension questions, the teacher pauses the track and wants students to repeat what they heard.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In this part, the teacher groups students which answer some questions that are related to the topic and use some words of listening, and the teacher check them.
