Description

In this lesson,I try to draw Ss attention to the context by giving them some pictures of festivals held in Ss` countrySs learn the vocabulary of unsual food festival through reading and I give another task related to the reading by looking through the titles and pictures of the reading and Ss find the sentences after reading the text quickly then make Ss to guess the meaning of the vocab through the context then to get feedback from students about the topic by doing activities .

Main Aims

  • To develop the gist and intensive reading skils in the context of food festivals

Subsidiary Aims

  • To develop spoken fluency in the context of the festivals

Procedure

Stage 1 (Warmer) (4-5 minutes) • To activate Ss`schemata and raise interest in the topic

-To start my lesson by asking how Ss are -To focus Ss on the pictures given and ask them to look at the pictures and answer the questions. -Ask ICQ`s such as - What do you have to do ? -Are you going to read or look at the pictures?

Stage 2 (Pre-Reading) Ex.1a/b,Ex 2a (10-15 minutes) • To develop speaking fluency and to clarify key vocabulary from the reading prep.

1a-Ss will look at the four photos and titles -Ask Ss to be pairs to the this task. -Ask Ss to answer the questions. -Elicit answers and ideas from Ss 1b -Ss will read the question first and read the text quickly. - Ask Ss Where and when each festival take place -Check the answers as a whole class. 2a -Give Ss time to discuss in pairs which festival they think those customs are associated with.

Stage3 (Reading) (10-12 minutes) • To link the Ss`s schemata with the reading text

2b - Give Ss time to read the text in detail - Ask Ss to discuss the guestion in pairs -Ask them what other customs and facts they learned about each festival

Stage 1 (vocabulary) (5-7 minutes) • To give Ss time to guess from the context that will help them increase their reading speed

Ex.4 - To explain that guessing meaning from context will help Ss increase their reading pace.It is always necessary to be 100% correct. -To give Ss enough time to guess the meaning of the words and phrases form the context -ask Ss to choose the correct definition.

Stage 1 (Speaking) (5-10 minutes) • To encourage Ss to speak and express themselves by doing this activities

Ex.4 - To give Ss time to discuss the questions in small groups - To ask Ss to exchange their ideas with other group by standing up and walking around the groups` tables. -Ask Ss to tell the class Which food they would like to try randomly for a few Ss.
