Description

In this lesson, students will learn about the differences between Present Perfect Simple and Present Perfect Continuous through guided discovery based on listening . The lesson starts with a brief discussion about the movie gladiator. This is followed by the analysis of the model sentences found in the text. Finally there is some controlled (gap-fill exercises) and freer practice (a final writing activity).

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the differences between Present Perfect Simple and Present Perfect Continuous in the context gladiators

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about gladiators

Procedure

Stage 1 • to introduce the lesson and make the context of the lesson interesting for students

T will show a gladiator picture and will wait for the students' opinions about that. Ask them to talk in pairs about the movie Gladiator. T-S feedback. - have you seen the movie? - tell your partner what you remember about the movie using the past simple

stage 2 • To provide listening skills

students listen to a conversation ss complete a HO about the listening

stage 3 • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T writes two sentences on the board and asks ss if there is a difference I washed the car / I have washed the car T writes a sentence using past simple and adds more and more time expression using the same sentence. T writes a sentence using Present perfect and use different time expressions T elicits the rule of both tenses. SS complete a HO - I arrived in Kadıyöy at 8/ yesterday/ 2 days ago/last week/.... stage 4 • to provide writing skills

SS are given a HO with a question. SS write a paragraph about the question ss read each other's papers some good ones are read to the class. -Can you think of a situation you have been in recently where you had to assert yourself ?
