B1 level
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide clarification of something, anything and nothing in the context of everyday situations.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide accuracy speaking practice through a conversation activity in the context of everyday situations, helping students use the terms in natural dialogues.
Procedure (36-50 minutes)
In this stage, I will start by talking about my day using something, anything and nothing naturally. using the vocabulary from previous lessons.
In this stage, I will ask my students to share short stories about their day or week using simple, natural language.
In this stage, I will write some of the sentences that my students have made in the correct form on the board, to draw their attention to the target language.
I will clarify the meaning of something, nothing and anything by writing example sentences on the board and asking CCQs: (Do we use "something" in positive sentences? (yes) Can we use "anything" in questions or negative sentences? (yes) Does "nothing" mean the same as not anything?) to check their understanding. After clarifying the meaning, I will elicit the structure from the students to show how these terms fit into sentences, highlighting that something is used in affirmative sentences, anything is used in negatives and questions, and nothing as a strong negative. At last I will drill the pronunciation of these words chorally and individually to ensure correction.
The students are going to do exercises A and B on page 35 in the grammar bank individually in 4 minutes. After completing the tasks, they will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs. Finally, we will check the answers together as a whole class, clarifying any mistakes or misunderstanding.
I will ask my students "did you do anything fun last weekend?"
