Food and Drink. vocabulary:love,like,eat,drink,a lot of.
Beginner A1 level


In this lesson, Ss will learn new words about food and drinks like:vegetables,fruit,tea......etc. And they will also learn some food and drink related words (eat, drink and a lot of). The lesson will start with a photo that has all the words they are going to learn about food and drink, then they will do some exercises to practice the TL. Finally, the lesson will end with an exercise in which SS will produce their own sentences about what kind of food and drinks they like or love.

Main Aims

  • Vocabulary/Function: Ss are going to learn words about food and drinks and related words,such as like,love,eat,drink and a lot of.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Listening and speaking: SS will have the opportunity to to practice on speaking and using the new words.In addition, they listen to how the new words are pronounced stressed.


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • Warmer/Lead-in To introduce the main topic of the lesson (Food and Drink).

-T mimes some words related to food and drink (tea,water,coffee,eggs,fish and pasta). -SS guess the words. -T writes down the the words on WB. -T lets SS elicit the main topic of the lesson(Food and Drink) and writes it down on WB.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task of the TL: Food and drink related vocab,and highlight word stress.

A-exercise 1-a: -T shows the photo in exercise 1 on page 28 from fsf Starter SB, and tells SS that they are going to play a game that includes words from this photo. -T puts SS into 2 groups ( apples are in one group,and oranges are in the other group). -T explains the game: Small pieces of paper are put on a table in the middle of the class that have photos and words of food and drink from the same photo the T had shown on the board. Then T asks each student from apples group to take one or two photos-depends on number of the students- and asks the other group to take the papers that have the words.Then T asks SS to walk around the class to match their words with the photos. -T gives HOs to SS and asks them to match the words with the numbers individually. -T monitors and helps. -T checks answers on WB . B-exercise 1-b: -T models the words and asks SS to repeat chorally and individually, then highlights the stress in (coffee,sugar,orange juice,pasta,vegetables,chocolate and water).

Practice (8-10 minutes) • To practice on memorizing the new words

-T puts SS into new pairs ( T gives SS small pieces of paper with words of drinks and food on them,SS who get food words sit next to each other ,and those who get words of drinks sit next to each other). -T shows the photo from exercise 1a on WB. Then gives SS one minute to remember the words.SS aren't allowed to write anything down. -SS work in pairs to remember the words together they can say or write them. While SS are working, T monitors and corrects any language and pronunciation mistakes. -T asks one pair to say the words they can remember to the class.Another pair can help if they miss any of the words.

Introducing verbs (6-9 minutes) • To teach SS how to use verbs related to food.

-T puts SS into new pairs, SS who like vegetables sit on the right side of the class,and those who like fruit sit on the other side of the class.Alternatively, SS who like apples and those who like oranges. -T shows pictures A-D from exercise 3 on WB and tells SS to focus on them. -SS do the exercise on their own,then compare answers in pairs. T checks answers with the class. -T checks that SS understand the new verbs (eat,drink,like,love and a lot of).To do this, T shows these sentences on WB: 1-I like pasta. 2-I love cheese. 3-I drink tea. 4-I eat a lot of vegetables. -T sticks pictures of all previous words on WB randomly and asks some SS to put the pictures under the right words to form the sentences.

Listening practice (2-3 minutes) • To make sure SS pronounce the new words(like,love,a lot of) correctly.

-T plays the recording R3.18 and asks SS to repeat after the speakers. -T correct pronunciation-related mistakes if there are any.

Productive Task (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the TL.

-T shows exercise 6 on page 28 on WB and gives instructions.SS will wirte about themselves about what they like,love.....etc. -T asks SS to work and compare in groups of three to practice the TL. They tell their partners what they love,like and what they eat or drink a lot of. _T monitors and gives help if needed.
