Main Aims
-
To provide clarification of simple present in the context of daily life
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of daily life
Procedure (37-49 minutes)
At the beginning of the class, I talk about my daily activities using simple sentences. For example: I am a teacher. I am 23 years old. It is a school. You are my students.
I will ask my students to tell me about themselves.
Then I will write the grammatically correct sentences that the students said on the board.
At this stage, i will point out to each sentence and ask (what is the role of the first word? - subject. what comes after subject? to be verb.what is the to be verb used with each sentence?) I will write the subject pronouns on the board, then the appropriate subject pronouns in front of each. I - am you/we/they - are she/he/it - is I will write the contraction form of each. Telling them in contraction, we have a missing letter. I tell them that we always have a subject pronoun, and a sentence without a subject pronoun is wrong. We always use capital letters at the beginning of any sentence, but for (I) it doesn't matter which part of the sentence it is, always capitalized. you - singular and plural He for a man, She for a woman, and It for a thing. They for people and things
I will ask them to go to page 136 of American English File 1 and do the exercises. They have 4 minutes to do them individually, then we will check with the whole class.
I will ask them to tell me about their name and age. Then tell me about their partners. They will first discuss in pairs, then with the whole class.
