Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide review of differences like to, would like to in the context of breaking bad habits
Procedure (50-58 minutes)
Introduce the topic of habits—things you do often (or every day). What are some good habits? What are some bad habits? Which are hard to change? Write ideas on the board.
Bring students to check slide 3. Educate they will talk about which habits they would like to change, have broken, do... Elicit one as an example. Recap instructions
Ask students: What is the habit that you would like to change, or like to change? What did your peers say? Write some of the students' ideas on the board. Bring attention in differences of would like (polite desire), like (gral preference). Highlight negative (use of auxiliary in like, negative in would)
Go through instructions with the class. Copy the Tic-tac-toe grid onto the board and model a turn with a student. Assign students to pairs and have them play the game together. For extra practice, have students draw a Tic-tac-toe grid on a piece of paper and write a different activity in each square. Have them exchange papers with another pair and play the game again.
Work in groups. Ask (in turns) the class about the situation and the advice they received. Choose the three best pieces of advice. (focus: attempt to use would like, like structure). Recap the sessions objective.
