Description

In this lesson students are going to learn how to spell, pronounce, and use some family vocabularies. Students are going to use their listening skills. They are going to have group work discussion sharing information about their families.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher is going to project a video that shows families from different places. The teacher is going to ask the students this question " what is this video about?" Students will work together for short time to guess. The teach projects a picture that shows a family.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The teacher hands students a handout that has the vocabularies on it. The teacher plays the recording 4.3, have the students to listen too. The teach is going to drill the vocabularies, again having the students to repeat them. The teacher writes the vocabularies on the white board, showing where is the stress in each vocabulary.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

the teacher asks students to try to fill in the gaps in exercise 4, page, in the handout page 25 Exercise 3&4. Students will work in groups, make some guessing progress since they already listened to a recording about Jim and Annie. The teacher monitors the students progress. The teacher instructs the students to listen to the recording and fill in the gap accordingly. The teacher gives the answers ( whole class feedback). The teacher hands students a handout that shows a family tree, instructs the students to fill it in according to their family members. Students work in pairs to discuss each other's family tree.

Target Language (8-10 minutes) • to clarify the usage of the target language

The teacher focuses the students attention on the family tree in the handout page 25 Exercise 3&4 and drills this :question "Who's Vince?" The teacher drills the answer "He's Emma's brother." Get students to continue asking about Annie's family in open pairs. The teacher writes this two sentences on board, reinforcing the correct use of possessive 's. Students work in groups, asks each other questions about Annie's family and write the questions and the answers.

Semi-controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the target language

The teacher plays the recording and pause at the first sentence, and instructs the students that they need to listen to the recording and know who are these people? The teacher asks the students to work in pairs. The teacher plays the recording and pause at every sentence, gives students time to think, and continue until the end of the recording.
