Description

In this lesson the students are going to listen to a conversation between a traveler and his tour guide.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about Tour guide in the context of travel

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Layovers in the context of travel

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The students will be asked if they've ever traveled with a indirect flight? If they have how was the layover?

Pre-Reading/Listening (3-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The students will be informed about the meaning of the following vocabularies used in the text by trying to match the meaning of the words with the vocabularies individually. They will check their answers in pairs and then with the whole class. pleasure, forecast, historic, look forward to

While-Reading/Listening #1 (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The students will listen to track and try to answer the following questions: Which city is he in? Where is his final destination ? Why will they return to the airport?

While-Reading/Listening #2 (9-11 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students will be asked to read the questions on page 2, part d (which city is he in? ) and then the audio file will be played again. The students need to mark the sentences True or False. They will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs then we will check the answers with the whole class. Students will need to say why they have marked each sentence True or False and they will need to support their ideas if they come up with different answers.

Post-Reading/Listening (3-4 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students will be asked to talk to each other in groups of 3 or 4 about if their flight had a layover, if it had where was it and what did they do?
