Description

In this lesson , Ss will learn about possessive ‘s through guided discovery based on showing flashcards of people and some information about them. They will try to figure out possessive ‘s through sentences such as Ben’s favorite color is black to differentiate possessive ‘s and ‘s for “is” This is followed by reading passage and gap-fill exercise to check if they understand.

Main Aims

  • To make them differentiate possessive 's and 's for "is"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide inference reading practice using a text about Annie's Family

Procedure

Lead in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Focus on the photo and ask the Ss to work as a group and make them guess who the people are, how they know each other , how old are they etc.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To practice reading for specific information

-Present learners with reading passage. -Have them do Exercise 2. -Pair check. -Play the audio 4.2 -Show them the answer key.

Highlighting and Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-Ask Ss about their job and then favorite food or color etc. and write their answers on the board(Nihan's a teacher. Nihan's favorite food is hamburger) to make them elicit the difference. -Have the Ss look back through the text to find examples of possessive 's ans 's for "is" -Give them a paper and ask them to work in pairs to find 2 groups of 's and draw a line between these 2 groups -Show the answers on the board

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-Ss will be given a circle the correct form exercise to enable them to practice using the target language in a way that demonstrates their understanding. -Pair check and whole class feedback.

Semi-conrolled practice (8-10 minutes)

-Show Ss flashcards , write their name and favorite color , food etc. - Gİve one example about yourself -Ask students to brainstorm to figure out the relation. -Give them the HO and have them write their answer -Let the pair correction happen -Have them look at the answer key

Personalisation (8-10 minutes) • To put into practice what they have learned

-Ask them to work as a group -Have Ss write a similar paragraph to Annie's about someone in the class they know well(could be another of the trainees) -Say "Do not to write the names" -They will mix the paragraphs and have one student in a group choose one and guess who is he/she , it will continue until each paragraph is done.
