Description

In this lesson, students are going to learn about superlative adjectives in the context of travel and experiences through PPP. After this lesson, students might be better able to use superlative structures to compare different people, places, or objects. The lesson will be finished with a fun speaking task where students share and discuss the best experiences they have ever had traveling to a place.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Superlatives in the context of travel experiences.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of travel experiences using superlatives

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage, I will show my students several photos of different cities around the world. I will ask them to look at the photos. Which countries are the cities in? What do you know about them? Have you ever been to any of them?

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage, I will show my students some photos of different buildings and cities related to the lead in stage I will ask them questions such as: Which building is the tallest? And which city is the most beautiful?Which city is the most family friendly

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In this stage, I will write some of the sentences that my students have made in the correct form on the board to draw their attention to the TL.

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this stage, I will write the form and meaning of superlative adjectives on the board for the students. Also, I will explain the form of superlative adjectives using the sentences collected from the students during the Exposure stage, asking CCQs such as, as we compare all the buildings in the world, are we comparing only two buildings? (No, we are comparing all the buildings in the world), As we look at the sentence, which word shows that we are comparing this city with other cities? (most), As we read the sentence, what word comes before most? (the), And do we use the same word before short adjectives, for example, tall? ( No)

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In this stage, I will give students five gap-fill exercises from English File 2 (in the grammar bank ). Students will be asked to complete the sentences using the correct form of the adjectives, focusing on superlatives(in 4 minutes). They will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs, and then we will check the answers with the whole class.

Free Practice (10-13 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In this final stage, I will ask students to talk about their own city or cities they have visited. They will be asked to name and describe the five most interesting things in those cities.
