Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To introduce and practice perfect forms.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To introduce continuous perfect forms.
Procedure (37-49 minutes)
Have a brief OC discussion about which breakthrough has the greatest impact on the Ss lives and why? (electricity, the nail, the internal combustion engine, the wheel, the steam engine)
Play clip from radio show about significant engineering break throughs. Have Ss listen and write down what each of the speakers on the show talks about as the break though and the impact it had on the world. Play the audio clip then Have OCFB.
Play second audio clip. Have Ss listen and fill in the blank of the expression based on what they heard in the recording. This exposes the Ss to the TL.
Meaning-Create a quiz (google forms) using timeline visuals to elicit comprehension of past, present and perfect forms. Have Ss complete on their own the OCFB Form-Briefly review past, present and future forms. Then give a fill in the blank activity having them label common words, or expressions used for each for tense (google slides). Pronunciation-I recorded myself saying different expression of past present and perfect tenses. Have Ss listen to these recordings and mark the stresses and weak for of words (google slides).
Use Exercise 5 in workbook. I modified the exercise so that the answers are given in a multiple choice format and the correct has to be chosen. Have the Ss complete Sentences 1-5 using the verb phrases below. Ss fill in the blank with the correct expression form of TL (google forms). Have students do this individually then OCFB.
This stage requires the Ss to read and briefly study their assigned engineering marvel. I have two short engineering innovations to assign to either individual students in the main chat or break them into groups. They are to read their respective information and be prepared to be interviewed by the other students on the information they read. I will change roles so every students has to be interviewed and give information. We will then have error correction and address any issues that were revealed during freer practice.
