Procedure (41-49 minutes)
The instructor shows a ball made of sheets of paper and introduces the "Onion Game". Ss should toss the ball to each other. When the it comes to a person, he-she should uncover the first layer of the ball read the question on it. Some Questions: Do you like travelling? What is the best/worst place for you to have a trip to? What are the most important things for you to travel? What are some difficulties while travelling? Tell us about your worst/best hotel experience? How do you plan for a trip? Do you think technology helps you while travelling?
The instructor directs students’ attention to the board, where present simple sentences from the previous text are highlighted in yellow. Students skim the passage to reactivate contextual understanding, then are invited to guess about the common features of the highlighted sentences.
The instructor gives them a chart partially completed. Asks them to complete the necessary information on the chart using the sentences from the text. The instructor clarifies the use ofe present simple tense using these sample sentences.
The instructor asks ss to complete the Live Worksheet about the present simple, and then they check answers first as pairs, then as a whole class. Sample Questions Fill in the blank: The app _______( - show) offline maps without a download. Jenny _______(- have) time so she _______(- write) reviews for hotels every time. I always ______ (try) couchsurfing to meet locals but my parents ________(- like) it. Find the mistake in the sentence: I does not trust all online reviews. People gives useful tips for new visitors. The lady don't know how to go to her destination.
The instructor tells these as the last activity: "Make a traveller vlog video for a traveller Instagram account. Talk for a 1-minute minimum. Mention some useful tips, some helpful apps, some things you always do, and some things you don't do while you're on a trip. Make sure you use the positive and negative forms of the present simple tense. Then post your video to the Padlet wall." Then they watch and comment on each other's posts in terms of accuracy. The instructor writes comments as feedback.
