Subsidiary Aims
-
To enable students to introduce themselves and others using appropriate phrases. To develop students’ confidence in speaking English in a social context. To provide practice in asking and answering simple personal information questions.
Procedure (15-21 minutes)
Write two simple questions on the board: What’s your name? Where are you from? Ask SS turn to a partner and ask/answer. Get a whole-class check: “Who is your partner? Where is she/he from?”
Project a short text introducing: “Hi, my name’s Gulnar. I’m from Baku. I like reading and walking by the sea.” Ask SS to read and answer: What’s her name? Where is she from? What does she like? Get a quick whole class feedback.
Elicit key phrases: What’s your name? → My name’s… / I’m… Where are you from? → I’m from… What do you like? → I like… Quick choral drilling for pronunciation.
Distribute worksheet (e.g., Find someone who likes football / is from another city / has a brother / likes tea). Students walk around asking classmates: “Do you like…?” / “Where are you from?” They write names in the boxes.
Ask “Who found someone who likes football? Who found someone from another city?” Highlight good examples and reformulate common errors on the board. Praise effort.
