Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of introductions and meeting new people

Subsidiary Aims

  • To enable students to introduce themselves and others using appropriate phrases. To develop students’ confidence in speaking English in a social context. To provide practice in asking and answering simple personal information questions.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Write two simple questions on the board: What’s your name? Where are you from? Ask SS turn to a partner and ask/answer. Get a whole-class check: “Who is your partner? Where is she/he from?”

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks

Project a short text introducing: “Hi, my name’s Gulnar. I’m from Baku. I like reading and walking by the sea.” Ask SS to read and answer: What’s her name? Where is she from? What does she like? Get a quick whole class feedback.

Useful Language (3-4 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Elicit key phrases: What’s your name? → My name’s… / I’m… Where are you from? → I’m from… What do you like? → I like… Quick choral drilling for pronunciation.

Productive Task(s) (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Distribute worksheet (e.g., Find someone who likes football / is from another city / has a brother / likes tea). Students walk around asking classmates: “Do you like…?” / “Where are you from?” They write names in the boxes.

Feedback and Error Correction (2-3 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Ask “Who found someone who likes football? Who found someone from another city?” Highlight good examples and reformulate common errors on the board. Praise effort.
