Grammar - Revise Present Perfect and Introduce Present Perfect Continuous

Description

This lesson builds on the previous one, of charity work of a British Family, by continuing with the same context. In this lesson the Ss revise the Present Perfect (with for and since) and they are introduced to the Present perfect Continuous. Then they put the language into practice in a speaking activity.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide To revise the Present Perfect (with for and since). To introduce the Present Perfect Continuous.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice speaking for fluency using TL

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Get the Ss interested in the topic. Make sure to relate it to the previous lesson. Focus on the task in Grammar Ex.a and get Ss to match Qs with Answers. Ask them to compare in GW/ PW before W/C FB.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In Pairs, Ss work on Grammar Ex.b ask them to compare in GW/ PW before W/C FB. Elicit the difference in form, meaning and use in both tenses.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Now ask Ss to work in Pairs on Grammar Bank Ex.a P.135 Ss work in Pairs to correct the mistakes in their sentences. Ask them to compare with other PW/ GW before W/C FB.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

To prepare for freer practice, use speaking Ex.a to demonstrate the activity. Draw a circle on the board and write info about yourself. Give Ss time to write true information in as many of the circles as they can. Go round the class making sure they have completed atleast 6 of the circles. Don’t forget to set time limits.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

To demonstrate Ex.b encourage Ss to ask you questions about your circle. Elicit “How long have you…?” Put Ss in PW and ask them to choose 1 of their partner’s circles and him/ her about the information in it. Don’t forget to set time limits. Monitor and take notes of any errors. Take some general FB and if you have time do some delayed error correction at the end.
